"The Art of Peace has no form - it is the study of the spirit."

O Sensei Morihei Ueshiba

The wisdom and beauty in this little phrase is truly worth deep reflection. While O Sensei was a religious and spiritual man, Aikido is not a religion nor religious. 'The spirit' begins as the attitude a student takes during practice. When practice and study are sincere, the student eventually realises a time when technique goes beyond technique, and the response becomes natural.

Reflect on the exercises and techniques in Aikido. They are not ends in themselves but a means to focus the student's energy, attention and response to each moment without being distracted. This conscious awareness is the NOW that many try to capture in their lives. Be alert and focus your energy the next time you practice in the dojo and notice how you respond differently as your awareness and focus improves.

In harmony
